  • Katie's Abseiling for Charity

    25th May 2012

When my neighbours told me there was going to be an abseil from our local church tower to raise money for The Endowed Schools - a charity close to my heart, I said, 'wow!  Who would do that?'  Two seconds later I got it.  They were asking me to do it because, apparently, it's more interesting if a fat middle aged lady abseils than if fit young men do it.  I still don't know why I said yes - I hate heights and can't even go over bridges slowly.  I do like to test myself sometimes and I expect it will go in a book - but I'm terrified!

I'd be hugely grateful for any donations in aid of The Endowed Schools. Here is my Just Giving page, http://www.justgiving.com/Katie-Fforde

    Love and thanks,

    Katie xx

  • Fatema Dadhiwala wins the Recipe for Love Bake Off

    15th March 2012

Yesterday the five finalists of Katie’s Recipe for Love Bake Off Competition gathered together in London to put their baking skills to the test in a professional kitchen. Judged by Katie herself, our finalists - Fatema, Julie, David, Beccy and Fleur - bravely stepped into the kitchen to bake their recipes for love and cooked up an absolute storm. With a fantastic array of lovely recipes from Beccy’s coffee and walnut cupcakes to David’s Rose and Raspberry Dobos Torte, the contestants successfully baked their cakes against the clock in a cloud of flour, chocolate drops and sugar.

With no sign of Katie’s love interest Gideon from her latest novel Recipe for Love to do the judging, Katie stepped up to taste the wonderful sweet treats. After much deliberation, Katie chose Fatema Dadhiwala as the winning baker with her ultimate recipe for love, a delicious chocolate caramel and strawberry cake.  Fatema was delighted to win and was awarded a Kenwood Mixer as her prize.

When asked about the event, Katie said:

"The Recipe for Love cookery competition was created so we could all experience the book in real life.  Five brilliant bakers went through the stressful process of producing their own Recipes for Love in front of the cameras.

Judging it was really hard as the standard was extremely high.  They could all have won!

But I did have to choose one and our winner, Fatema, cooked a really exceptional cake - Chocolate Caramel and Strawberry.  It was close, but she won."

When asked about winning, Fatema said:

"It was a wonderful experience, a dream come true for an ordinary girl like me who got the chance to present my recipe amongst other amazing chefs with so much talent. Thank you"

It was a great day and really brought alive the story of Recipe for Love. Katie’s heroine from the novel, Zoe Harper would be proud.
